Saitji Chats, Srirangam

It was the day of Election (April 18, 2019), followed by Chitra Pournami on April 19, 2019. My family planned a trip to our Kuladeivam Koil and we set out to Srirangam. The stay was at Hotel Hayagriva and I met another Facebook friend of mine this time. She suggested the famous chat shop called Saitji chats that’s on the Raghavendrapuram road. It is about 20 years old and still manages to retain the charm till date. I was astonished to see the crowd at this shop. The complete menu is attached here.

1. Pav Bhaji Fry

This is one of the USPs of this shop. It has another variant in Paneer too. All they do is cut the pav into small pieces, mix it with bhaji, and fry it with butter. Then they add some onions and sprinkle some lemon juice, and serve it red hot. This was new and I enjoyed it here. The usual practice is just giving 2 pavs with bhaji, onions, and lemon. But here they use some extra pavs (I think) and their quantity is good enough for 1 person. Try this here and let me know your thoughts.

2. Double Samosa Bhel Masala

We all know about bhel puri. We all know about Samosa. This is a mix of both samosa and bhel puri. 2 Big samosas are crushed and mixed with bhel puri ingredients. It had puffed rice, plain sev (omapodi), some elements of the madras mixture, and finally the samosas. The quantity was perfect for 1 person and I finished it all by myself even after having the heavy pav bhaji fry. This is a must-try here.

3. Pani Puri – INR 20/-

No chat food is complete without the pani puri. It is not served like in other places. They give 6 puris filled with green peas & aloo masala stuffing, and the pani in a tumbler. They serve in our place. We just have to pour the pani in the puri and have it. The cost is cheap. You can’t expect more at this price point, but I tell you that you won’t be disappointed either.

I paid INR 90/- for both pav bhaji fry and double samosa bhel. I would like to try the other items on the menu in the upcoming visits. For more suggestions on restaurants, please check the website homepage.
