Happy New Year to you all. This is first restaurant of 2019. I was back from Bombay after the year-end vacation and I had this hotel in my bucket list for a long time. Finally it was a Saturday afternoon and this hotel was fixed.
Located on Akbar Sahib street, this is minutes away from the Bharathi Mess Triplicane, another famous name of the area since the 70’s. When I reached the location, people were already queuing in for the token. I was shocked! Then someone came out and announced the next batch to come in and take the seats. Wow! Kudos team for that.
It has 4 rows of seats arranged with 2 types of tokens. They are only open in the afternoons and evenings, 11.45 AM to 3.30 PM and 7.30 PM to 9.30 PM to be precise.
This is price board here. If you just want the Limited meals, it would cost you INR 75/-. I had it with Curd and Ghee. It costed me INR 90/-. I was given 3 tokens. It’s a good thing to note that these guys don’t encourage take aways. This keeps them away from Zomato, Swiggy and Uber eats.
The seat numbers are mentioned in the token itself so that you don’t need to roam around searching your seat.
That’s how the Banana Leaf and the tokens are placed. The server glances it and takes it to serve you right.
I’m sure this resembles the ambulance siren. I don’t know how they got the shape right. Everyone is served the same. This is perfectly sized to fit 1 person’s tummy. The rice was cooked fully and not half boiled.
While I was busy thinking how to make the first cut through the siren, the rest of the cast made their way to the leaf. Beetroot (with coconut), one pattani Kos kootu, Paruppu podi and ghee. Paruppu podi with ghee in a piping hot rice is a combo that will induce cosmic heat throughout. With potato roast as your side-dish, you can die for it. That’s heaven guys.
Along with the kootu & beetroot, the podi rice went in well and then came the Sambhar.
It had a nice homely taste to it. It wasn’t too spicy. With the appalam, it made a great combo.
That’s the vatha kozhambu next to the appalam and I had that rice too. The rice was easily mashable with the kozhambu and with beetroot, this was fabulous. Try this combo to yourselves and let me know how it is.
The servers keep checking every row what the customer wants and give refills of vegetables, sambhar, rasam, etc. This is commendable. The rasam had a high dose of tomato and tasted just like the soup we make in our childhood with the rasam and appalams, mixtures, etc.
It was time to end the meal and finally curd arrived. If you don’t get the curd token they give buttermilk. I feel for INR 10/- this isn’t worth it. You can very well get away with the buttermilk. The curd was thick and creamy. Nalla kolapi adika vasathiya irunthuchu.
